In 2011, on the 20th anniversary of the trumpeter's death, I was commissioned to form a big band and conduct it for a unique show: a tribute to Miles Davis.
It featured soloists of the stature of Carles Benavent, Jordi Bonell, LLibert Fortuny and Matthew Simon. Taking advantage of the work I was doing with the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, I also incorporated some of the young musicians, among them Andrea Motis.
The result can be seen on this CD, which is the recording of that concert at the Teatro Apolo in Barcelona.
The production, arranged by Alfons Carrascosa and Sergi Vergés, was named after Miles Davis and Gil Evans' Sketches of Spain (1960), and was a rich tribute to the trumpeter.
